The Luberon

Draped between the Alpes de Haute Provence and the Vaucluse plain, the Luberon, just like the mont Olympe, springs out of the Provence land to perfection. Here, nature has brought together the entire palette of Provençal colours: the lavender blue, the flaming green of the vast forests, the copper shades of the ochre cliffs as well as the ivory of the limestone hills…

This massif of the Prealps, formed by the Grand and the Petit Luberon, at 30 km from Aix-en-Provence, peaks with the Mourre Nègre (1125 m). The creation of the Luberon Regional Natural Park is mainly known for the presence of various authentic villages such as Gordes, Lourmarin, Ménerbes and Roussillon. The château de Gordes is touching for its elegance and its bearing. Lacoste preserves the fiendish souvenirs of the madness of the marquis de Sade. This bit of paradise is also known for the Sénanque abbey, nestled in its beautiful little valley.

Finally, the markets that gather regional products celebrate a hymn to the glory of the region´s land: at the first row, the queen of savours; the truffle that secretly grows in the depths of truffle oaks, clear yellow lavender honey, with a unique perfume and flavour, thyme and rosemary.

On the exceptional site of the «Fontaine du Vaucluse»,enchanting and mysterious, a beautiful river suddenly appears, bathing the feet of a violent calcareous wall: la Sorgue de Vaucluse. Various artists have been captivated by the splendour of this landscape.

The villages of the Petit Luberon: Bonnieux and Ménerbes, the Grand Luberon where you´ll find the villages Saignon and Grambois, Lourmarin; Lacoste; Cavaillon; Gordes; the Sénanque abbey; the Silvacane abbey; the Fontaine de Vaucluse, and the Colorado Provençal in Rustrel.
